What is an "Index Interview?"
Short answer: Index Interview is the name for our process of identifying legislative relationships, stakeholder willingness to engage and issue sentiment.
Our customizable "Index Interview" is how we quickly and easily identify your stakeholders' legislative relationships, comfort level with your organization's messaging and being an advocate, issue sentiment and any other stakeholder intelligence that will help you mobilize your advocates more effectively.
Beyond a simple survey, our Index Interview was developed to identify actual relationships and is central to our service's ability to score your stakeholders, making it easy to find your uber-advocates.
What kind of response rate should I expect?
Short answer: It varies, a lot. We’ve seen from 3% to over 80%.
Stakeholder response rates for Index Interviews vary greatly. We have seen response rates as low as 3% and as high as over 80%.
While we work with you every step of the way to ensure your Index Interview and initial email to stakeholders are optimized to generate the best response possible, it is important to keep two things in mind:
1) RAP Index exists to help your organization identify hidden relationships with elected officials and mobilize stakeholders more effectively by providing "actionable intelligence." While the stakeholders that respond provide a powerful "short list" of uber-advocates, those that do not respond provide organizations with a valuable list of stakeholders who are clearly not comfortable with or sold on the benefits of advocacy yet. Knowing who needs to understand the benefits of advocacy is crucial to your organization's ability to grow your legislative advocacy efforts.
2) Because non advocacy-related issues impact stakeholders' affinity for your organization, lower response rates can sometimes indicate issues your organization's leaders may be unaware of. One client discovered widespread dissatisfaction with the organization's position on a piece of legislation that greatly impacted its members.
One of the things we are proudest of is the fact that EVERY piece of information our process returns is extremely valuable for our clients.
How large should an organization be to use RAP Index?
Short answer: If legislative advocacy is an important part of your organization's objectives, you are the perfect size.
We are obviously big believers in the abundance of benefits organizations using RAP Index enjoy. We also understand that every advocacy organization has its own resources and objectives to consider. RAP Index is an indispensable service for any advocacy organization and we work hard every day to keep it affordable for organizations of any size.
Who has access to the data?
Short answer: Only the staff and leadership you designate will see your organization's information.
RAP Index is equal parts identifying and managing relationships. Once our Index Interview process has captured your stakeholders, only organization staff and leadership selected to receive a user name and password will be able to see your organization's information.
How many people can I interview?
Short answer: As many as you want (more interviewees = more relationships discovered).
RAP Index consistently uncovers powerful relationships in the most unlikely places. Organization leaders and government affairs professionals are expected to have relationships with elected officials but what about the rank-and-file stakeholder who is first cousins with the U.S. Senator or has attended Sunday School with the Congressman and his wife for years?
The more stakeholders our clients interview, the more relationships the organization will discover. In order to avoid unintentionally incentivizing clients to trim potential interview universes, we structured our pricing to remain the same regardless of the size of the initial interview universe.
Can I customize the Index Interview questions?
Short answer: Yes, but too many can negatively impact response rates so be careful!
Anyone can send out an email asking stakeholders questions. What RAP Index users love is the way our service not only identifies but scores organization advocates and makes it easy to find and mobilize its best messengers. While there are a minimum number of question types that are necessary to generate an accurate RAP Index score, organizations also have the ability to incorporate custom questions. Obviously, it is possible to have too many questions but don't worry, we are on hand at every step throughout the process.
How often is the data updated?
Short answer: Elected official data is updated at least quarterly. New Index Interviews can be sent as often as you'd like - quarterly is recommended.
There are two ways to answer this question:
1) We perform quarterly updates of our database of federal, state and local elected officials.
2) You are welcome to send your advocates updated Index Interviews as frequently as you like but we recommend at least every six months with special follow up for those who have not taken the most recent Index Interview (some RAP Index users also like to send the most recent Index Interview to new staff or stakeholders as they join the organization).
How does RAP Index use my organization's data?
Short answer: We use your organization's data to better your organization's legislative advocacy - that's it.
Is our organization's data merged with other RAP Index clients' information?
Short answer: No.
Relationships are the bedrock of effective advocacy but stakeholder interest in your legislative objectives is just as important. It wouldn't do much good to reach out to a member of another organization to ask if they would use their legislative relationships on your behalf so it wouldn't make much sense to co-mingle your organization's data with RAP Index users'.
The security of your organization's data is of utmost importance to us. If your organization has unique data security considerations, our programming team will happily work with the appropriate members of your IT team to answer any questions.
Will you manage the data for us?
Short answer: Yes, we'd be happy to for an additional fee
We work hard every day to ensure RAP Index is easy for anyone to use but we also understand all organizations are not created (or structured) equally. While our standard pricing is designed for organizations who want to handle day-to-day management of their data, we are happy to work with clients to develop a service package that meets their needs as well as budget.
How much is it?
Short answer: WAY cheaper (and faster!) than hiring a staffer to do the same thing. We refuse to let price stand in the way of your organization's ability to benefit from our service.
Our service's pricing depends on the number of states your organization will be targeting, how many people will need to access our web-based advocate management interface and whether or not we are providing additional services (like managing your data for you). We know our service can greatly benefit any advocacy organization and are committed to work with any unique budgetary constraints you may face.
Is your service compatible with our organization's data management system?
Short answer: There are numerous integration options, we will work with you to find the one that works best for you.
RAP Index is a unique, stand-alone service that gives your organization the ability to identify and manage hidden legislative relationships. That said, we are happy to work with the appropriate members of your team to determine the best possible integration solution for your organization's needs (additional charges may apply for custom solutions).
